What is sympathy

What is sympathy? Sympathy is a feeling of emotional predisposition towards an object. From the Greek "sympatheia" is "attraction", which means a subjective impression of the attractiveness and desirability of something. Associated with the concepts of synchronicity, reciprocity. In a number of cultures can mean empathy and a desire for happiness. Under the influence of the Stoics and the ancient Greek philosophers of the early (4th – 5th centuries AD), the concept of sympathy fell into the vocabulary of mystics, romantics, and philosophers. At that time, it was about cosmic sympathy. Cosmos was nature, the elements and it was about the emergence of natural (cosmic) sympathy. Even then, both unconscious (natural) causes and social methods of creating sympathy were considered, since they believed that the cosmos (nature), society and the individual existed according to the same laws. The emergence of sympathy between people is explained by unanimity, common views and interests, a subjective selective positive reaction to the person of another.

Sympathy is regarded as an instinctive propensity due to the feeling of kinship. External manifestations are an active expression of interest, goodwill, attentiveness. The opposite is a feeling of antipathy. Interest, what is sympathy, the definition of this feeling is inherent in man.

What is sympathy for man?

A person is interested in a feeling called sympathy, what it is. The feeling of sympathy implies a positive attitude, a definition like the object, whether it causes location. It allows you to associate a certain person with potentially good emotions for us. This is a positive, socially approved feeling, a desired attitude for a person, because we like to feel it.

Sympathy for a person is perceived as a seemingly unreasonable continuity of the other, an inclination towards him, a feeling of spiritual kinship (and therefore was perceived as a cosmic connection). This is a manifestation of an early, irrational form of trust. There are versions that one of the sources of this sensation is a different set of genes, which manifests itself in excellent external stimuli - smell, outline, figure, and therefore is of interest for further communication in order to enrich the genome. Another version speaks of similar characteristics that inspire confidence because of their similarity and clarity. The second version has more arguments on its side, since the opposite can cause a positive reaction if the ratio of fear of the unknown and interest is outweighed in the direction of interest.

Sympathy is more connected with continuity and the feeling of unity, which is easier to feel for a person like and understandable. It can occur as clarification or formation of a feeling of community, joint exercises, common interests, when the difference becomes sufficiently expressive, to distinguish individuality, but not brightly opposite, to give the impression of a demonstrative difference.

The emergence of sympathy is possible both conditionally and randomly, and as a result of building relationships, forming a community, with people's attitudes. Man is social, therefore giving all the reins of emotions and relationships to the factors of physical attractiveness is irrational and more and more attention is paid to the ways of social formation of the feeling of a mutually positive relationship between people.

Sympathy is associated with the observance of personal boundaries, individual space. People invading personal space, physical, individual, are associated with the aggressors and, accordingly, cause antipathy. Just as a manifestation of a trust relationship is access to personal boundaries. Those. sympathy arises as a result of respect for someone else's space (including psychological) and the result will be access to it.

The frequency of social contacts creates the basis for the emergence of sympathy, because people feel the need to trust their surroundings and unconsciously seek to establish contact with the permanent environment. Therefore, a person may feel guilty if he does not have positive emotions towards someone who treats him well. Showing sympathy is a stimulus for the formation of internal, as a response to behavior. For this, a certain social exchange is carried out, when individuals provide each other small services, as well as etiquette interaction, the exchange of words of courtesy.

What is liking and disliking?

Professionals are often asked questions - antipathy, sympathy, what it is. Antipathy (from the Greek. - "against" and "passion"), which means the feeling of the opposite sympathy. In a pair, they relate to the motivational factors of interpersonal and intergroup communication. This is a feeling of internal inclination, hostility, disgust.

Antipathy is also initially an unconscious attitude, but it can also be formed in the process of social interaction. Antipathy is a necessary tool for social communication. Being based on a biological nature, when aversion is caused by potentially life-threatening objects, in the social manifestation of antipathy is also a signal of potential danger, objectively or subjectively perceived. Also in communication she helps another to understand the reaction that his person causes. It is almost difficult for a person to understand neutral signs, the psyche is focused on certainty, clarity and clarity of signals and antipathy is just as necessary for building mutually acceptable relationships.

The source of antipathy is the notion of danger, rejection, aggression, disgust, staying as formed as a result of personal experience, and resulting from genetic memory or learning.

Feelings of sympathy and antipathy may be equally present in relation to the object, then they talk about ambivalence of attitude, when contradictory, mutually exclusive feelings overwhelm the personality. A manifestation of this behavior may be the inconsistency of non-verbal and verbal signals and behavior. At an early age, when the social psyche is explicably not formed and infantile, this can be expressed in contradictory rendering of attention in the form of tearing, provocations (the notorious pigtails and catch-up).

As he grows up and gains social experience, a person learns to form relationships with a conscious balance of opposing, mutually exclusive relationships, when a person is capable of acceptable and intimate communication, while being aware of other negative or unacceptable qualities and habits and otherness. In this case, ambivalence occurs in some cases. If social intelligence is poorly formed, a person often experiences similar contradictions, which is expressed in the inconsistency of the expression of non-verbal and verbal signals, the formation and construction of relationships.

What is sympathy for a girl?

What is sympathy is the definition of a concept often interesting to young people. If we divide sympathy for the person of the sex of interest, as for the person and sympathy, as a feeling of personal and erotic interest, then in relation to the girl she is associated with intimate interest. A manifestation of it can be considered a good attitude, the desire to spend time together, providing services and attention to the girl, a material expression.

If we talk about non-verbal signs, then it should be remembered that in most situations a person always experiences some emotions towards another and they have some kind of sign (positive or negative). Positive signs mean the absence (for the moment) of negative ones, and not necessarily a positive reaction. And in such a situation, an active invasion in order to attract attention, an attitude towards a positively neutral attitude, as a promise of sympathy, can be perceived as an attack and unfold a sign to the opposite. In this case, active demonstration of increased activity and groundless demand, as well as the expectation of further confirmation of a positive attitude, can be perceived as aggression and obsession.

It should also be borne in mind that from an intimate point of view of a person, to one degree or another, all non-pupils (by age, social, kinship) representatives of the sex of interest are interested. And if the object does not cause antipathy, it potentially causes pleasant emotions. Those. some expression of a successive, positive attitude, especially in a certain community setting, does not necessarily highlight a particular girl in the eyes of a guy, but rather has a common signal of continuity. Accordingly, nonverbal and conditional manifestations of sympathy in the form of a smile, a benevolent gaze, open postures and politeness should preferably be attributed to the general personal expression of sympathy and politeness of communication in a non-aggressive society.

Correct signals should be considered only expressed verbally or actions in the form of attention, time, and material expression. If a young man speaks of his sympathy for the girl, seeks to spend most of his time, and also to take a useful part in her life, help her, make something that causes joy and smile, then we can assume the presence of pronounced sympathy.

What is sympathy for a guy?

Similar to the attitude towards a girl, sympathy for a guy is a combination of interest in an individual with an intimate interest. Similarly, by analogy, a manifestation of sympathy can be a desire for spending time together, providing attention and services. Non-verbal signs speak about the absence of a negative attitude. The feeling of such a positive attitude towards another person, necessary for social and interpersonal communication and applied to a specific person, can be considered as a potential for the formation of a deeper attitude and communication, and not a guarantee and a promise of it.

A girl's sympathy for a boyfriend can be both social and erotic, initially, but it should be remembered that, as in the opposite case, and in any other cases, she is not static.

But if you focus on heterosexual relationships, the gender moment interferes in the case of boy and girl intercourse, since in most cultures a big initiative at the beginning of communication is laid on the boy. In this case, non-verbal signs in the form of a smile, a benevolent look can push to the first steps to show attention and to demonstrate strong individual sympathy. But here it is also necessary to remember that non-verbal signs indicate the absence, at the moment, of negativity, and are not a promise of mandatory sustained sympathy. And if the girl smiled, but refused to offer the communication, then the smile should be attributed to the display of politeness and the manifestation of a positive attitude towards the person in general, and not a direct intimate interest.

It should also be remembered that the relationship process is dynamic, the manifestation of sympathy at the moment, can be replaced by antipathy in the next, if the response signal is not pleasant. For example, a gross violation of personal boundaries, both physical and individual, can quickly, sharply and permanently (sometimes and permanently) erase positive impressions and cause antipathy.

Incorrect, rude, aggressive, obsessive behavior can provoke a change of a positive sign to a negative one. The more accurate and attentive the relationship of personalities among themselves takes place, the greater the chances of strengthening the feeling of sympathy and increasing the chances of a transition to a deeper and closer level of communication. This is true both in relation to love and friendship, regardless of gender differences.
