Honesty is the ability of the individual to express his true position (thoughts), to speak the truth under any circumstances. A person with integrity is able to admit his guilt, able to avoid lying, omissions in judgments at the time of communication with others. Honesty is a sign of conscientiousness of a person who is able to control actions and words, to be sincere, not to overstep the bounds. A person who possesses the quality of honesty avoids deception in any environment, without having selfish motives to misinform the interlocutor. In contrast to a truthful person, an honest individual is capable of telling a lie, but it is believed that at the same time he retains his property of being honest, since he believes in a lie.
What is honesty
Honest confession of one’s guilt or wrong is often difficult even for the most truthful person, this is tantamount to the accomplishment of the feat by the individual. Being honest is not easy and not always convenient. This is the moral quality of character, the basis of human virtue, reflecting the most important requirement of morality.
As a property of an individual, honesty contains in itself some other qualities: loyalty to the established obligations, conviction in actions, in their correctness, integrity, sincerity in relation to the motives by which the individual is guided.
Honesty to people is considered to be directed from the depths of the human psyche - the appearance of honesty (often used as a synonym for the word sincerity). Honesty to oneself is denoted as the internal form of honesty. Being frank with yourself seems like a simpler kind of honesty. In fact, this property of the individual is very insidious. It is human nature to create illusions around himself and sincerely believe in them, entangling himself in a net woven from lies and injustice. So the subject, who invented the illusion of a true friend, found him in his friend, who simply successfully used the sincerity of the subject. A person tries for his friend to do everything, trusts him, helps, sincerely supports, and then becomes disappointed in a second. All this time, a person was honest with himself, believed and acted with justice, but it turns out completely different - he sincerely deceived his personality.
The individual, who possesses the quality of honesty, is first of all characterized by the fulfillment of his promises, the ability to help and support at any moment in life. Knowing about such a personality characteristic, you can always share and trust it. After all, an honest individual speaks in the case, sincerely, not wanting to offend the interlocutor. But such frankness with the outside world is not possible for every individual in the harsh everyday life. The current society is focused on individuals who are able to cheat, to tune out to someone with the help of compliments and dodging the answer.
Honesty and justice are to some extent the quality of highly moral individuals who seek to create harmony and perfection in the world. The special task of honest people is still the eradication of lies - to prevent other people from using the benefits created not by truth, to achieve justice at any price.
Everyone decides to become on the path of honesty independently, and comes to this in completely different ways. Believers, relying on the Scriptures in the Bible, live according to God's laws and by this they push themselves to be honest and fair to everyone. For an unbeliever, but a person who lives according to the principles of morality, honesty acts as a way of being, otherwise he cannot live. For such individuals, the concept of honesty does not mean revealing all their secrets, where and how much an individual has money, where they are hidden, and how you can find them. An honest individual has the property of distinguishing the face: where to tell the truth, and when it is better to remain silent. His conscience does not allow you to cast off kindness and forget about the experiences of others. It allows you to focus first on kindness, then to be honest.
The concept of honesty implies that the individual is able to see other people "through", he does not look for dishonesty in people and with a pure soul believes only in their favor. At first glance, it seems that an honest person can easily be deceived. If an individual uses his honesty prudently, it is not too easy to deceive him, his ability to scan others allows him to stay away from evil people.
Honesty and decency - this is a stable inclination of the individual to the fulfillment of important moral standards, the integrity of the individual. Honest people recognize the differences between the right and the wrong actions, between fiction and lies. People who have succeeded in the economic development plan of their livelihoods, highly appreciate honesty and decency, give them significance as success factors in personal development.
Honesty and integrity are the basis of trust. One of its main manifestations is expressed in respect for individuals absent at the time of the conversation. A person who is able to discuss and respond badly about the qualities of people behind their backs is not credible to those present. The two-faced individual who is unable to follow the canons of decency and honesty will never achieve high trust. Even if it will try as much as possible to adapt, to fulfill the promise, to be attentive to every little thing and to strive for mutual understanding. Decency implies following the same principles of morality, of course, in each situation with each individual. Perhaps this behavior will first cause confusion and conflict. But then, when a person is able to prove the sincerity of his intentions, this behavior will grow into absolute confidence in him.
The concept of honesty is narrower than decency. It is often said that decency encompasses the quality of an individual’s character, honesty, but not reduced to it. Honesty is the truth in spoken words and committed deeds when words correspond to actions. A decent person is able to adjust their affairs to the words.
Individual honesty and justice depend on even the slightest choice made daily. Therefore, only painstaking work aimed at self-development can bring a person closer to these especially valuable qualities of an individual. Bringing love into the environment, creating harmony, a person is able to earn the trust of people around him as quickly as possible.
Honesty as a character trait is not innate, but acquired in the process of educating an individual. This property must be formed from the earliest years of personal development. The whole environment of the child should be aimed at bringing up in him an honest individual with attitudes towards a fair livelihood. It is in childhood that you should show a little person how to be as sincere as possible, openly express opinions, confess to committing actions, not be afraid of punishment, and not be shy about being that way. A person must be accustomed to be responsible for the acts committed, and not be afraid to experience feelings of guilt, awkwardness. A child with diapers is not able to show secrecy and cunning, to deceive. All his actions are his experience, thanks to the adults around him. Accordingly, truthfulness and honesty should be shaped by the example of people's actions in the environment of their life activity. The impetuous kid, ready to soak up like a sponge, everything that a “immaculate” adult does, first of all, is guided by authoritative personalities: parents, grandmothers, grandfathers, teachers or kindergarten teachers. Therefore, when choosing an educational institution, parents should adequately assess what their child can learn there. Indeed, for the first time in these institutions, the child becomes acquainted for the first time with moral norms, duties and rights, with examples of honest and truthful behavior.
Experts give some tips for successfully cultivating honesty since childhood. First of all, it is the trust of the child. If the baby feels the confidence of adults, he will also behave towards them. In addition to trust, parents must honestly share with the child the events taking place in life. It is not even good to lie, it will be difficult for the child to become aware. Raising a child, you need to show him that the truth is what the world is built on, that it is useful for others. When communicating do not need to use the method of interrogation of the child. At the same time asking ambiguous questions that seem to push him to choose a lie, rather than tell the truth, in consequence get punishment.
Explain to the child that bad actions must be taken. And for honest confessions a child should be rewarded: make his punishment conditional in order to show that a bad act has bad consequences, at the same time sincere admission of guilt will show parents possible solutions and give the child the opportunity to correct his offense. Severe punishments, excessive demands and pressure on the crumbs indicate a misunderstanding between the parent and the child. As a result, the baby begins to speak lies because of the fear of not being accepted. Therefore, the most important thing in upbringing a person’s honesty is his own example and the love of parents.
